Firstly, this is normal to feel and is not uncommon. This is due to an energetic release of stagnant dense energies within the physical, emotional or spiritual body that you’ve been holding onto consciously or unconsciously. It’s also referred to as an “energetic purge” or “healing crisis”.
Your body’s goal is to maintain an equilibrium even when there are unhealthy toxic parts within. The idea with sound and energy healing is to essentially shake up the unhealthy parts and cells to remove, release and unblock the heavy stuck or stagnant energy that is holding you back from being your best and healthiest version of you. So, when you do this there will be a powerful shift in the balance that the body has worked hard to maintain.
It can also be normal to feel an increase in pain during a session or in the first hours, days or weeks initially following, as what you’re doing is replacing the old low energy with the new higher frequency energies. It is said that the worst pain happens right before the healing process starts.
Vibrations are especially useful for healing the body. The adult body is 75% water, and water is a great conductor for sound vibration, when vibrations travel through the body, they promote circulation, energy flow, and rejuvenation. The frequency of the sound synchronizes with the brainwaves and activates destress responses in the body.
When sound waves reach our ears, they are converted into electrical signals that travel up the auditory nerve into the auditory cortex, the part of the brain that processes sound. Once sound waves reach our brains, they trigger responses in our bodies.
This process alters our emotions, releases hormones, and triggers certain impulses.
With most alternative healing modalities and meditative practices, everyone’s experience can be different and no two sessions are the same as new things rise to the surface.
Majority of people will find sound healing to be very relaxing both physically and mentally, some might have visual (clairvoyant) or auditory (clairaudient) experiences, some may have an emotional release/break-through or physical purge like screaming or vomiting in intense cases. This is all very normal and it’s best to go with it, don’t hold back what is trying to be released.
During a sound healing session typically, you will lie down on a yoga mat or massage table or be seated in a comfortable position with blankets and pillows or anything else that will may you feel most comfortable. You’ll simply close your eyes relax and then just listen to the variety of sounds that the practitioner plays. Some practitioners will also go around to each participant with an instrument and play it within the energy field (aura) of the person.
In an individual 1:1 session the practitioner may even place the singing bowls, tuning forks, therapy grade chimes or other special instruments near or on the body to promote the flow of energy and vibrations, which help lymphatic flow and muscle relaxation.
Before a session it’s best to be relaxed and not rushed around running errands or doing chores so that you are in a more receiving mode. Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the current weather.
After a session it is recommended to drink water and rest your body.
Common to most learning difficulties is auditory processing disorder. Even if the primary functional problem is a visual or motor problem, this processing is highly interactive and involved with the auditory system. This is because the brain is a highly integrated structure where each sensory system interacts with others to help us make sense of our world.
The auditory sense is, in many ways, the sense with the most profound impact on our learning ability. Language is how we communicate about all topics, and hearing is more highly integrated into our nervous system than any other sense.
For this reason, any child with a learning difficulty is likely to benefit from Sound Therapy. Sound Therapy definitely assists auditory processing, but it has also been found to improve other types of sensory processing (visual, motor skills, balance) as well as integration between the senses.
